STATE RESOURCE CENTRE (Uttarakhand):
The Centre, registered with the National Trust, Delhi, functions under the guidance and directives of Uttarakhand Govt. and caters various needs of Mentally Retarded persons which include
a) Preliminary examination, evaluation, counseling;
b) Diagnosis;
c) Treatment- with medicines, physiotherapy, speech therapy, psychotherapy, counseling & special education;
d) Providing assistance for disability certification;
e) State Govt. directed rehabilitation assistance; and
f) Dissemination of information on various Govt. welfare schemes for the disabled.
Advance Centre for Mentally Handicapped:
The Centre attends cases of Mental Retardation, Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (A.D.H.D), Cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, Autism, Speech & Hearing Defects, Nocturnal Enuresis, Inadequate School Performance & other related problems. The Cases are seen & examined by a panel of Experts comprising of Pediatrician, ENT Surgeon, Child Psychologist, Audiologist & Speech Therapist, Ophthalmologist & School Educationist. A thorough assessment is made incorporating case history, Parental reports, Physical & systemic Examination, Pathological, Radiological, Genetic, Psychological, & Intelligence tests etc. Afterwards an integral approach is made which, as per the needs of the case, may include drugs. Alternate medicinal therapy, Psychotherapy, Counseling, Speech Therapy, Occupational therapy etc.. Inj.botox therapy, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy are also tried in certain cases with encouraging/satisfying results. Surgical corrections are also done in cases of contractures. The progress is monitored closely, reviewed periodically and treatment adjustments are made accordingly.
H.I.V. /A.I.D.S. Surveillance Programme:
This programme is proposed to be conducted under Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Commette, Dehradun, D.G.H.S., Govt. of Uttarakhand and shall be directed at High Risk Behavior Groups through Combined Targeted Intervention Programme.
Specialized Medical Health Camps in remote areas of Uttarakhand:
Special Medical Health Camps are organized by the Association in remote areas of Uttaranchal State in association with Medical Specialist from different Fields to cater various health needs of such areas which are usually devoid of such health facilities.
District Disability Rehabilitation Centre for Physically Handicapped:
The Centre is established under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice and Women Empowerment, Govt. of India to cater various needs of the physically disabled persons in order to facilitate their rehabilitation. The Centre envisions holding camps to arrange Orthopedic Examination, Evaluation and providing various Orthopedic Prosthetics, Calipers, Wheel Chairs, etc. and also plans to arrange Corrective Surgeries for contractures.
Training of Aaganwadi workers/A. N. M. s.:
Early detection of Mental Retardation is possible through primary health workers who come in regular contact with preschool children. The Association undertakes training of Aaganwadi, A.S.H.A. workers and A.N.M.s to enable them to detect such cases at the earliest so that adequate Medical Intervention can be done.
Centre for Child Guidance & Parental Counseling:
Inadequate School Performance is a growing concern for modern age parents and teachers. This centre offers guidance and counseling to school children and their parents & suggests ways and practical approaches to solve their problems.
Tender Point, Guidance Clinic for Adolescent Girls:
The Clinic (run by a team of Pediatrician & Gynecologist) provides up-to- date information on matters related to age specific problems of Adolescent Girls like development of sexual characteristics, Sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS, Contraception, Skin & Hair problems, Hormonal disorders, Adjustment problems & also helps in resolving emotional and psychological disturbances and conflicts.
Health Awareness & Immunization Programmes for Children:
The Association undertakes to organize periodic free Health checkup camps with a team of specialists in Educational Institutions and through other social organizations. Other activities include Health Exhibition, Health quiz, Essay & Poster competition for students & subsidized mass vaccination programmes
Reorientation Workshop for Teachers on School Health:
In school, the vigilant roving eye of a teacher can detect early signs of ailment, deficiency or communicable disease besides visual, auditory derangement which may result in poor school performance. If the teachers are imparted elementary know-how of such warning signs, the threat of possible future ailment can be avoided. Here workshops include theoretical lectures as well as practical demonstration for this purpose.
Public forum for health Awareness & concurrent Health issues:
The Association organizes Seminars, Discussions, Talks & Symposia etc. and via publication of Periodicals and related material endeavors to create health awareness among various groups of people. The topics include subjects related to Family planning & Mother & Child Care .Our experience includes working on INDIA POPULATION PROJECT.
Research:
The Association is involved in many ongoing studies relating to various modalities in the treatment of Mental Retardation. A number of research papers have been published & acknowledged at National and International forums.
PRAYAS:
A Day School for Special Children with Special Needs * This School endeavors to cater special educational needs of children who are special in various aspects. These include those afflicted with Mental Retardation, Autism, Down’s Syndrome, various learning disabilities, besides visual and auditory impairments.
DRUG DE-ADDICTION CLINIC:
Addiction with various stimulants, narcotics, depressants, inhalants and other unclassified substances is on the increase in adolescents and young adults. This Clinic provides besides detoxification, various facilities which include Behavior Therapy, Psycho therapy, Group therapy, Controlled drinking treatment programme and Self control teaching programme, Relapse prevention training and Environmental intervention.
